Starbucks Report

Chicago and Franklin

This unassuming Starbucks is conveniently located right off of the Chicago Brown/Purple Express line so if you are ever in the need for latté or mocha pit stop on your way to the Firm, this is an excellent location. The main problem is two fold. First the general lackadaisical attitude of the workers gets to me. You are expected to walk in, order within ten seconds, swipe the Chase card, and receive receipt and mocha next – all within two minutes. If it takes longer than that, well, that place isn’t qualified to be a Starbucks. The Chicago and Franklin location seems to be home of the Starbucks newbie who needs to actually read the menu, debate if he or she should have a hot or cold drink, say a lot of “ums” and corrections while ordering, have some side banter with the cashier and generally waste my time in the morning when I could be denying Outlook appointments at my desk.

Second, they never seem get my order correct. Today I requested my standard issue “grande skim no whip mocha”. What I received was a white mocha, ew. I was half awake when the barista repeated my order while handing over my mocha so I didn’t spot the mistake at that time. When I got up onto the Chicago EL platform to proceed to the firm, I took a sip and almost immediately needed to get rid the horrid drink from my grip.

Park Ridge

All I want on Thursday mornings is a bagel and a hot mocha. I do not believe that these two items are too much to as for at any standard Starbucks. Well the Starbucks in Park Ridge, just off of Cumberland, is anything than standard. It is located in a Dominick’s and though parking is usually more than adequate they don’t carry bagels. So when I say my usual order of “grande skim no whip mocha and a bagel with cream cheese” they look at me in disgust and spout “we don’t have bagels – you’ll have to go over to the bakery section for that”. Well what the hell, you carry those horrible scone things and other pastries. What sets the bagel apart from those other bread items?
