La Cocina

Published by Brent under the loop

Andy and Brent took a walk to Jackson to get some authentic Mexican food and watch the World Cup on Friday.

I was doing some work at LaSalle and Wacker when Andy emailed me and asked if I had any plans for lunch. At the time, I was planning on going to the local Cosi or Corner Bakery, but Andy had another suggestion.

This Friday afternoon Andy and I went to La Cocina at 11 W Jackson. I read the review over and decided that it was a good choice; a DePaul law student approved the restaurant, so how could we go wrong. We met up at Monroe and LaSalle and proceeded to walk down LaSalle towards Jackson through traderland.

The man at the register took my order while he watched the World Cup on a flat panel. I ordered three chicken tacos and a plate of small guacamole for the table. During the middle of our lunch, Mexican dance music started to play. It lasted for one song and then the music stopped. Apparently you only get one song per lunch.

I have to say that the food was authentic Mexican; my tacos came with two shells and the guacamole was just the right consistency. Andy enjoyed a huge burrito that could have fed a small village. I didn’t have a chance to test my theory that the green sauce is always hotter than the red sauce, so I will have to get another lunch at La Cocina next week.
